Memorial Day Prep!!

Hi everyone, it's Shannon from Wine Taste Girl for my last day of guest blogging for Shelli while she's out getting some must needed R&R.  I don't know about you all, but I'm super excited to have a three day weekend and I have a ton of things planned.  First off, my sister is getting married on Sunday!  Yeah! We are also having a huge family cookout since we'll all be together for the wedding, and I think there is nothing more fun than getting together with family and friends in the summer at a picnic or barbecue.   So for today's post, I wanted to share with you all my idea of the perfect ensemble for any outdoor activity you may be participating in this weekend.

And this is what I want my cookout to look like!  Have you ever seen a more organized table?

This is one side I will be making!
Ingredients
  • 4 ears fresh corn on the cob, husks removed
  •       1/4        cup Crisco vegetable oil
  • 3 tablespoons lime juice
  • 3 tablespoons pure maple syrup
  •       1/4        teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 small red pepper, finely chopped (about 1/3 cups)
  • 3 green onions, finely chopped
  • 3 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro leaves or parsley
Instructions
  1. Rub the corn with 2 tablespoons oil.  Beat the remaining oil, lime juice, maple syrup and black pepper in a small bowl with a fork or whisk.
  2. Lightly oil the grill rack and heat the  grill to medium. Grill the corn for 5 minutes or until lightly browned on all sides. Remove the corn from the grill. Cut the corn kernels from the cob with a sharp knife.
  3. Stir the corn, red pepper, green onions and cilantro in a medium bowl.  Add the dressing and toss to coat.
So what will you be doing this weekend?
Thanks so much for letting me be a part of this amazing blog, Shelli!  It was fun!

Lemonade And Watermelon Color Love!

Hi A La Mode Maven readers, it's Shannon from Wine Taste Girl, and I'm back for my second day of my guest blogging series while Shelli is out on a well deserved break.  I know you all are treated daily to all of Shelli's amazing design skills so I thought I would incorporate a little design into my fashion theme today.  Spring and Summer are full of bright colors that seem to pop off the rich green backgrounds and one combo I've been inspired by is the Lemonade and Watermelon color palettes.  Bright pinks paired with yellows are eye catching and seem to fit so well into the season, so I've found a few design and fashion ideas channeling this color combo I just can't seem to resist.

And this post wouldn't be complete without a Watermelon Lemonade drink recipe!
Watermelon Lemonade
Yields: 12 servings

Sugar Syrup:
2 cups water
2 cups sugar
Lemonade:
2 cups water
2 cups freshly squeezed lemon juice
1 cup freshly squeezed lime juice
4 cups ice cubes
2 cups diced watermelon
Mixed diced fruit of your choice (such as apples, pears or strawberries)
1 orange, preferably organic, sliced into rounds
1 lemon, preferably organic, sliced into rounds
1 lime, preferably organic, sliced into rounds
To make sugar syrup: Combine the water and sugar in a medium  saucepan. Turn the heat to medium-high and boil for 10 minutes. If you  are planning to make the lemonade immediately, place 2 cups of the sugar  water in the freezer or refrigerator while you do the rest of the prep.  (The recipe makes about 2 cups syrup. When stored in a tightly sealed  glass jar, sugar syrup keeps indefinitely in the refrigerator).
To make the lemonade: Mix 2 cups of sugar syrup, watermelon, lemon  juice, and lime juice in a big bowl or pitcher. Add the ice cubes, diced  watermelon and other fruit. Add the orange, lemon, and lime rounds.  Stir well and chill until icy cold.

So where do you find color inspirations this season?

Trending Fashion: Peter Pan Collars

Hi everyone!  My name is Shannon from Wine Taste Girl, and I'm guest blogging this week for my dear friend Shelli while she's out getting some much needed R&R.  My blog, Wine Taste Girl, is geared towards finding boutique and designer fashions on line and in stores, all for less than $100.  I'm so excited to be joining you this week and I hope you all will enjoy a little fashion flair interjected into the a' la mode design theme.  You may find a few new items for your summer wardrobe you just can't live without!

Being the mom of two very well dressed little boys, I have bought my fair share of juvenile peter pan collared shirts.  They are precious and remind me of Little Lord Fauntleroy.  Who's that you say?
Well it's a really old movie with a little English lord who wore a lot of these somewhat girly collared shirts. (Don't judge, I didn't have a baby girl until a year ago!)  Well these days, it's perfectly acceptable for grown women to wear the peter pan collar look, and I must confess, I'm really into it.  Here are some really fabulous, spot on trend worthy tops I'm currently obsessing over.

$59

$66

$19

$19

So what's your take on this trend?  Will you channel Little Lord Fauntleroy?

Also, please join me starting next week in a Summer Trend Fashion Link up.  Starting on Tues, May 29th, I'll showcase a summer trend a day for the following ten days, and you all have a chance to show your take on that trend.  If you blog, write your post that day on the trend, then link your post back here on Wine Taste Girl where my readers have a chance to hop over and read your post.  If you don't blog, don't worry, take your best picture of you wearing the trend, it doesn't have to be a professional shot... it can even be a picture of you standing in front of the mirror.  Then post it to your Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook account and leave the link here on Wine Taste Girl that day so we can all check it out.  It's easy, and a fun way for us to get ideas on how to wear these pieces.  So here's the rundown of the trends and dates I'll be featuring them...

I can't wait to see what you all come up with!

Heel Booties For Flip Flop Feet....

This is a weird post, but I love these darn things and I thought with summer and flip flop season upon us, I would share.
Just my tootsies hangin out on the screened in porch in my newest obsession for flip flop feet woes.....my heel booties.
Yeah, that's right, gel lined heel booties!

I put lotion on my heels and then these little suckers and then I have the softest heels (because sometimes the Texan in me comes out and I go barefoot around the house and in the yard).  I also LIVE in flip flops.

I now wear these around the house some but mostly to bed at night.

Here's what the package looks like if you wanna look at Walmart or Target.....any brand will do I bet....

I bought them here.

After a quick change in beach destinations, we are finally headed out today!  My friend Shannon volunteered to pop in with a few guest posts for you- hers are always good so you won't wanna miss them =)  Thanks Shan!

K's Big Girl Room Progress- Furniture Delivery!

So guess what arrived yesterday......K's big girl bed and dresser!  She is so excited that she won't get out of the new bed...um, and the mattress isn't being delivered until today!  HA!  She has been so bummed the last 2 nights that she has had to actually sleep in her crib.  Oh, I think we are in for some interesting nights coming up......

In case you are new to the blog....here is the mood board...

warning: crappy iphone pics ahead
K has been putting her changing table pad on the wooden slats, lying down and saying "KK bed."  So cute.

Here is her new dresser (that is doubling as a changing table as we are not potty trained yet). I am in love with the little hutch top, it is a separate piece that attaches.

But if you know me...you know I am MOST proud of my new side table from Homegoods for $69.99!  The color, shape and scale are just perfect for her room!  Homegoods to the rescue again....
