My staircase looks like this
(RIP Lilly Cat)
I wish my railing looked more like the one shown here from the home of Sally Wheat, featured on Cote de Texas. She mentions that it is a faux paint treatment on the railing, but no more details. Has anyone heard of this? Have you seen this before on other railings? I like the pewter patina color.

The first thing that comes to mind about the railing finish is a patina/glaze that Lowes carries - http://www.lowes.com/ProductDisplay?partNumber=99734-4-007.0099734.004&langId=-1&storeId=10151&productId=3087565&catalogId=10051&cmRelshp=req&rel=nofollow&cId=PDIO1
ReplyDeleteI know they have several other color options. I used it on a chandelier I was updating and it worked well for me.
I like your banister.... it's all the wood on the stairs that seems heavy and plain.
ReplyDeleteI think if you painted the risers white and left the banister and treads as they are, it would lighten things up immensely and look much more sophisticated. No runner necessary, as well.
I was thinking the same thing as Karen. A lot of the newer homes here have the same iron railings, but the risers are painted to match the baseboard mouldings rather than stained to match the treads.
