Tuesday's Turndown- A Little Bit of Lovely

------------------------------------------
Hi! I’m Kara from A Little Bit of Lovely and I am thrilled to be here today sharing my master bedroom with you! I am a big fan of Shelli’s blog and I love her style, so I was honored when she asked me to participate in her Tuesday Turndown series.

I like my bedroom neat and peaceful, and I like my bed to be comfortable and soft. I want to be able to fall into my bed and be enveloped by it. Although our bedroom is still a work in progress, having our bed completed was a must! The furniture, mattress, and duvet are all from Macy’s furniture store. Since I can remember, I have loved the look of sleigh beds, so my husband and I chose a king size wood sleigh bed with matching dresser and side tables. I wanted our mattress to be like laying on a big, fluffy cloud. I ended up falling in love – and I mean LOVE – with a pillow-top, Hotel brand mattress. It has been by far one of the best purchases we’ve ever made. The first night I slept on it, I thought “now this is heaven.” In addition, we chose a down-filled duvet.
b
Not only do I like my mattress super-soft, I have an obsession with soft, smooth sheets. The higher the thread count, the better. We have ivory colored, 600 thread-count Egyptian cotton sheets for our bed. I like having multiple sets on hand, and have found good buys at Bed, Bath, and Beyond (with a 20% off coupon) or Tuesday Morning. I adore little touches like eyelet stitching and would love to have pillowcases with our monogrammed initials someday.

The rest of our bedding is from Pottery Barn. I like mixing different fabrics and patterns, and ended up going with PB bedding because I was able to pick and choose my pillows within the same color scheme to “build” my bed how I liked.

I love having tons of pillows! My husband says our bed reminds him of Ben Stiller’s bed in Along Came Polly – ha. I started with 3 euro shams that matched the duvet cover. Then, we have 2 king size pillows and 2 standard size pillows with ivory pillowcases. Next, are 2 standard size, red pick-stitch shams. Again, I liked the extra detail on these pillows – their stitching and their bow closures. Finally, an ivory and red lumbar pillow sits in front of the red shams. There are a lot of pillows, but all of them come off at night except the ivory colored ones.

To complete our bed, good lighting was important to us. We have silver candlestick lamp bases with ivory, linen drum shades. I don’t get to do as much late-night reading as I use to, because with two little ones, I tend to fall asleep after one page, but I do like having good books near by. I also like to surround myself with pictures of loved ones, a lovely scented candle, and a little greenery.

Hi Everyone!  It's Shirley- back again at Shelli's request!
Shelli asked me to post about my recent project
A Driftwood, Sunburst Mirror!!
So here she is!!! We are so proud of the mirror!
It's a labor of love, I'm truly amazed how an idea will come, then to see it come to fruition, it's so rewarding!! I must say that without my husband John, none of this would be possible.
Like I said before- I dream up these ideas, and he makes it happen!
Thanks John.

Chloe said, "mom your mirror is so pretty"

Had to be extra picky, choosing only smooth, long, round wood
