Tuesday's Turndown- Shoestring Sophistication

Good morning A' La Mode readers:) My name is Bobi and I am visiting from Shoestring Sophistication. I am ecstatic to be a part of Tuesday's Turndown series, but I don't know if my master bedroom is. It seems I have put our guest room before our master when it comes to decorating, but I do have big plans for this space and have slowly been turning it into our little oasis. To give you some perspective, here is what our space looked like the first time we saw our home back in May of 2009...

I mean, it really wasn't too bad. It was clean and homey, but just not us at all. The first thing to go was that yellow paint color. We decided on Smokey Day by Ace Paints. Our new bedding from Crate & Barrel really woke the space up, but was soon replaced with something more soothing and will eventually be replaced with something crisp & white.
After some paint, here is what we had...

The mirrored headboard was a bust. It did not give the sophisticated, romantic feeling I thought it would, but instead was a little too kinky;) Don't worry, it came down. Along with the oak trim.

Some more progress...

I also added some detail to the closet doors with some paint and some bling:) Perhaps my favorite part of the room so far is the dresser we recently got...

Don't you love the pink?

Just kidding. I took my inspiration from that mirrored headboard that didn't quite work and brought it over to the dresser.

I took a large piece of mirror we had lying around to a local glass cutting shop and had them cut them down to fit into the drawer slats and drill holes for the hardware.

We were blessed with good bones in this space and the windows let it great light. I have some big changes coming up for this room and most certainly the thing I am most excited about, is the drapery fabric. Shelli has used it, too! I plan to spend my birthday money on Robert Allen's Khanjali Glacier ikat fabric...

Can't wait to get my hands on it:)

I hope you will come over to see some more progress.

Thanks to Shelli for letting me stop by!

  2. Incredible transformation! I really need to start on my master. I had a super bright master in my old house so a dark chocolate bedspread really worked. Now my room is CRAZY dark and the bedspread makes it worse. So... I'm lusting after your pretty, bright linens.
